The finishing touch—putting shoes on the bunched ankles of the scarecrows—made the kindergarteners dissolve into giggles! The students scrambled onto the bench alongside the hay-stuffed creations, pretending for a moment that they were all ordinary Meadow Pond students out for recess.
The Fall Festival at the Pond turned the elementary school’s courtyard into a barnyard for the afternoon. The celebration was a living lesson that nurtured a sense of belonging by connecting students to the rural history of Meadow Pond Elementary’s community, and to the season with simple and traditional hands-on activities.

Kindergarteners stuffed scarecrows, picked pumpkins and snacked on apples and cider. The blustery weather added to the excitement of being outdoors and discovering new activities around each corner. Heading inside for a craft project was a welcome and warm part of the rotation.
The pumpkins went home with the students; the scarecrows will continue to greet students at school throughout the fall.

Thank you to all parent volunteers and to Gossett Brothers Nursery for pumpkins and hay.
