When the student Ambassadors took the stage at Meadow Pond to run the all-school Community Meeting, they ad-libbed, hammed it up and had fun—hallmarks of their growing confidence in public speaking.

They weren’t the only student leaders involved. The Community Meeting celebrated a wide array of student talent and involvement in the school community.

"We believe that giving children opportunities to take on leadership roles such as greeting classmates, helping younger students and supporting school events builds confidence, responsibility and a strong sense of belonging," said Principal Ashlyn Field and Assistant Principal David Bournas-Ney. "Leadership empowers students to see themselves as valued members of the Pond and contributes to our welcoming and joyful environment."

The Ambassadors introduced the second-grade balloon parade, and fourth and fifth grade chorus and orchestra performances. They also helped Principal Field and Assistant Principal Bournas-Ney recognize students with positive behavior on the school bus and in the classroom.

What’s Blooming at Meadow Pond club announced the December centerpieces for the cafeteria tables—arrangements of evergreen and conifer branches—and shared the differences between the two.

Junior Reporters took the stage for the first time to present news about the school’s Book Fair and the first-grade trip to the aquarium.

What’s more, Principal Field announced a new leadership opportunity for second and fifth graders: Junior Elbow Bumpers, who will help her greet students with elbow bumps each morning.

In all, more than fifty students stepped onto the stage, stepping into their development as confident leaders and learners.
